The Plan Review staff are examiners who conduct reviews of proposed construction projects, Plan Reviewbuilding improvements, remodels, and additions to existing structures. Their goal is to ensure that fire and life safety is provided and maintained in any proposed construction project where plans are required. The basis of such review is according to the current California Building Codes.

The scope of work requiring review includes and not limited to the following:

  • Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems  (Residential 1 and 2 Family Dwellings Only)
  • Fire-Resistant Construction
  • The Use and/or Storage of Hazardous Materials
  • Occupancy Changes
  • Structural Elements/Systems
  • Electrical, Mechanical, & Plumbing Elements
  • Green Building Elements
  • Energy Conservation Elements
  • New Buildings or Structures
  • Major Tenant Improvements
  • Signs
  • Residential Additions
  • Pools
  • Patio Covers

The City uses outside consultants/firms to assist with plan review projects when a project exceeds the technical expertise of City staff, when workload exceeds staff levels, or when special requests cannot be accommodated by City staff.
